Logitech also includes enough speaker wire to be able to string your satellites up to 25 feet away, that's a pretty decent amount of wiring for each speaker. Something I was VERY surprised at was the style of cable terminals my system came with to hook up the satellites to the amp built-in to the subwoofers enclosure. This means the only way to extend the wires if need be is to cut them and splice them, very ghetto and tacky.
Good work yet again Logi, still impressing the hell out of me so far! This particular setup is a full digital setup if you hadn't already guessed.
Logitech has included an awesome breakout box for volume control, input selection, speaker levels, etc. On the back of this fancy backlit box with weighted control knob you will find all of its audio inputs. It features audio input via direct analog cables what i'm using until my Bluegears HDA card comes in , digital coaxial, and digital optical. It's got an input for anything you want to throw at it, along with a spare inputs on the side of it for hooking up a portable cd player, etc. Right next to the aux input is also a headphone jack, good for us late night gamers that don't want to wake the neighbors with the sound of gunfire.
The subwoofer included in this package is among the biggest available in other 5. It features a 10" high excursion woofer in a hand tuned ported enclosure which makes it BEAT to high heaven. Get these speakers, and you will NOT be dissapointed. Pros: This is an update to my previous review. I set this up at my parents house in a large room, 25' X 16' with my dad's HD Projector on a " or bigger screen and it didn't disappoint.
Even though this room has lots of soft objects carpet, rugs, furniture, drapes etc it still filled the whole room with awesome crisp highs, rich mids, and deep bass. The kitchen floor above this room was shaking enough to feel like a small earthquake, probably 3. Polar Express, LOTR, and other movies sound awesome on this system, which really draws you in for a fuller theater experience.
More and more I am preferring the sound of my home system, this one, and my Onkyo, over the sound produced in local theaters. Cons: Sub is huge, 3X larger than my previous PC system but still worth the sacrifice of space. Not a con but a note: Keep rear of sub clear of anything that would disrupt airflow around heat sink.
Overall Review: I now have this setup in its permanent location, my room, which is about 11' X Corner loading the sub always helps, especially in large rooms like the one described above. Bottom Line: Whether your room is a cell dorm 8' ft X 8' ft or a large 25 ft X 16 ft Home Theater room with a massive front projection screen, this system should satisfy your needs going forward for many years without the need to upgrade.
Note: A large 25'X16' room requires volume to be almost all the way up or even into the boost mode depending on the source but it still got loud enough for some viewers to complain and was still crystal clear and distortion free. Pros: I have only had to opportunity to use this system with direct input mini-jack as im am using it on a laptop but, even with the stereo wiring the dolby digital encoding makes the difference.
The desktop control box has many features, and the option to switch between inputs without having to change wires is a very nice feature. Cons: I have to turn down the sub when i use this as an alarm clock so i dont wake up neighbors. Overall Review: First day i had it i had a neighbor come into my room college dorms and say: "ohh thats you, i thought it was the train going by Pros: I bought these in and couldn't be happier.
No degredation of sound, speaker surround still perfect. I've got these hooked up to my computer, with Stereo X2 permanently set.
I primarily use them for music, which they excel at. Cons: Outdated surround sound you won't be using them with your current surround receiver and BD player. Overall Review: What the heck is with the astronomical price??? These were discontinued when the Z's hit the market.
Logitech had to do some fancy footwork when the control pods started breaking. Exchanges were made with the newer product which supports current surround sound- I have those hooked up in the living room Look for a used set, if you can pry them out of their cold, dead hands.
Pros: Great sound, highly adaptable. I run on 2. I've hooked this system up in my last six apartments, twice with a rear projector. Never had any problems with any of the system, though the chrome is wearing off the control nob. Affixed the speakers to custom shelves to aim to the center of the room. After 10 years of running this every day it is just like new. Sound quality is fine enough to highlight whispers or shake dust of the ceiling fan.
Loud enough to get the cops called at max. Only once did I run it at maximum for an extended period of time, and the sub tripped the thermal protection shut off. These speakers are hard to beat! These speakers are more awesome then you have read about. If you don't want to spend thousands on a hi end stereo system or don't like the packaged home theater packages in a box these speakers are for you. The bass on this thing is phenomenal.
I have this hooked up to a home theatre pc and action movies sound great on them. The mids and highs play very well for the price. Sound configuration is limited though if ou don't have this hooked up to a pc. Also i am not a fan of remote control and the speaker control. This is more nit picking.
I purchased the Logitech Z 5. The Logitech Z was a huge upgrade, especially in terms of bass. The best thing about this set it undoubtedly the subwoofer. It hit hard and clean in the hertz range for music and even dipped nice and low for DD LFE effects down to the 20 hertz region. The Logitech Z setup won't replace dedicated HT speakers especially in a large room, but they are definitely the best computer speakers you can buy, surpassing even Klipsch.
The speakers are relatively small, so don't expect mind blowing SQ. In fact, I would say the highs are the Z's weakest points, although still most likely satisfactory for most users. The Z set is perfect for college students, a small to medium media room, office, or bedroom. The sheer SPL that the Logitech Zs are capable of producing for such an affordable price is mind blowing.
Logitech certainly has a winner here. Let me just start of this review by telling you to stop reading right now and go pick this up right now if you havent alright. I swear to god that I am not being paid to write this review.
The Bass of speaker is a little big in size but it will shake your whole house no lie It has got to be the deepest bass I've heard, It's so good that I see people on youtube install the bass in their cars, lol.
Beware though in order to get the full experience you will need to install a high end audio card in your PC otherwise you will not get good sound, trust me I know! I'm a Geek!. These Logitech Z's are one of the best computer speakers you can purchase in the market. The Logitech Z has remarkable sound quality.
Low's, mid's, and high's all sound great with this speaker setup. The cables used for this are not RCA and are standard speaker wire's. The great part of this is that these wires are easy to replace and costs very cheap to buy.
RCA wires are not great because they are thicker and harder to hide. All 5-speakers are amazing in quality. The bass is superb with its' 10" subwoofer. Bass sounds true to what it sounds like. The speakers also come with multiple connections. The center console houses all the connections to every piece of this speaker set. These computer speakers can connect ot Co-Axial, Digital Out, as well as standard 3. The only downside I see in these speakers is that the center speaker is un-mountable.
It is not able to be mounted on the top of your monitor. The reason is because it is fairly heavy and that it was not designed to be mounted. Other Logitech speakers are able to mount on top of the monitor. I bought these speakers on black friday because I felt that was pretty steep for computer speakers.
